Muhammad Yaseen Completed UNESCO Prestigious Fellowship in Field of Geology


Muhammad Yaseen, Lecturer Department of Geology, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan successfully completed UNESCO prestigious fellowship in field of Geology and awarded the certificate at AGH University of Science and Technology, Krakow Poland. He worked on research project co-sponsored by UNESCO & AGH UST Krakow. The fellow conducted research under the supervision of Prof.Dr hab. Inz Jaroslav Prsek, Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection on “Geochemistry and Mineralogy of Chromites ores along the MKT zone part of Chitral, North Pakistan".


During fellowship, he attend a number of different conferences, seminars, and workshop and visited to historical and recreational places with the others fellows. He presented in UNESCO conferences i.e. UCT and also in other conferences arranged in AGH UST. On behalf of the fellowship he presented one of the abstract  in the conference organized collaboratively by the government of Vietnam and Poland in AGH UST. He have collected the sample in a Geological field conducted to research area and used some advance geochemical analysis on the sample at the Lab facility provided by the host institution available in AGH UST. World Water Day


To observe World Water DayAWKUM GREENS Student Society, Department of Environmental Sciences, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, organized poster competition and a walk around the campus on 22nd March 2018.

World Water Day is an international observance and an opportunity to learn more about water related issues raise awareness about the protection of this precious thing and inspire others to take action to make a difference. Water is the most basic need of life; without water there is no life. But now, more than ever, human activities are posing a threat to our water supplies through pollution, over extraction, deforestation, new construction and all the activities that fall in the category of development.

The first part of the program consisted of a poster competition. Students had prepared posters which were evaluated by faculty members of other departments and the top three posters were selected for prize/certificates. After this, students of the department went outside and created environmental slogans in the lawn using their own bodies as markers and grass as canvas. Students and faculty of the department then took a walk around the campus to raise awareness about water conservancy. Students were holding banners with messages to raise awareness about the protecting this precious commodity. One of the ideas behind having a special day is to make people think twice about how much water they waste.

BIC, AWKUM Successfully Participated in a One Day Exhibition on Women Entrepreneurship Organized by IWCCI


The Business Incubation Center (BIC) Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) successfully participated in a one day exhibition on Women Entrepreneurship on March 11, 2018 organized by Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry (IWCCI) in collaboration with Women X at Lok Virsa Islamabad. The female entrepreneur MS Athea Yousafzai (Student of Faculty of Business & Economics, AWKUM) displayed her stall in the exhibition. She has been facilitated by Business incubation center AWKUM in establishing her online business through Facebook with name of HashTag. Coordinator BIC AWKUM, Mr. Shah Hussain Awan accompanied the students during visit.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Ghazanfar Bilour, President The Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) appreciated the efforts of  Business Incubation Center AWKUM for encouraging female students to start their own business. He assured his full support to female students of AWKUM for starting their own business.

One-day National Workshop on the “Data Presentation and Interpretation for Effective Publication”


One-day national workshop on the “Data Presentation and Interpretation for Effective Publication” was held at department of Agriculture AWKUM on March 20, 2018. The event was jointly organized by ORIC and international Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Research.

The event was organized on the auspicious occasion of inaugurating the 4th volume of International Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Research (IJAER). The awards were distributed among the editorial board members, best reviewers, best researchers, best paper of the year and other individuals/organization who contributed in the successful completion of three years of publication of the journal. Dr. Kawsar Ali, the Editor-in-Chief IJAER delivered lecture on the three years performance of the journal. Guest speakers from Faisalabad Agriculture University and Government College University Faisalabad delivered lectures on scientific writing. Prof. Dr Muhammad Jamal and Prof Dr Muhammad Arif of Agriculture University Peshawar were among the distinguished guests. Dr Zafar Hayat Khan and Prof Dr Sultan Ayaz (Dean Faculty of life Sciences) welcomed the guests and talked about the importance of the workshop for young faculty and students of various universities of KP. At the end Dr Asad Ali, Chairman Agriculture Department and Director ORIC, thanked the participants for their active participation and interest throughout the workshop.






International Day of Forests is Celebrated at AWKUM

International Day of Forests is celebrated around the world every year on 21st March to raise awareness among the people in the society about the significance of forest and the scores of benefits which are gained from them. The day is internationally observed to establish the anatomy of forestry like production, recreation, protection and the major contribution to the living organisms. Countries all over the world are encouraged to undertake efforts to organize local, national, and international activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns, seminars, and mass awareness campaigns on this day.
To celebrate this day, AWKUM Greens (Society of Environmental Science Students) organized a seminar and tree plantation campaign at the Garden campus of the university on 21st March 2018. Dr. Aurangzeb Khan, Dean Faculty of physical and numerical sciences was the chief guest on the occasion. The program started with a walk around the campus by the faculty and students of the university. After that Dr. Aurangzeb Khan planted a tree infront of the Academic Block followed by plantation by Dr. Hamayun, Dr. Saeed Islam, Dr. Sajjad Hussain, Dr. Muhammad Qasim, and the faculty of Environmental Science Department. Prayers were offered for the success of this university and peace in the nation. After the plantation by guests the program shifted to the conference hall of Department of Environmental Sciences. The official program started with the recitation of Holy Quran by Mr. Arifullah. Dr. Farhan Shams then gave a brief description about the department of Environmental Sciences. Dr. Muhammad Qasim, chairman department of Environmental Sciences gave a presentation on current status of forests in Pakistan and its future in Climate Change scenario. Dr. Sajjad in his remarks on the occasion stressed the importance of forests for our survival. Dr. Saeed Islam said that the future of our planet is in the hands of our youth. Dr. Waheed Murad in his comments praised Allah (S.W.T) for blessing Pakistan with a variety of climatic conditions and the best geographical location. The chief guest of the occasion, Dr. Aurangzeb in his comments praised the department of Environmental Sciences for taking the initiative. He also advised the youth to preserve the remaining forest resources of the country for future generations. The ceremony came to end with the distribution of certificates among the high grade achievers of the department by the chief guest. After that the students of Department of Environmental Sciences planted around 200 tress around the campus. The plantation campaign will continue tomorrow as well.
It is the duty of each and every individual to participate in the welfare of forest. Such events and activities always promise to encourage the sense of inspiration in the public.

Dr. Muhammad Khan, AWKUM PhD scholar, Successfully Defended his PhD Defense


AWKUM PhD scholar Dr. Muhammad Khan has successfully defended his PhD Defense at Brunel University, London, UK, under the supervision of Professor Hamed Al-Raweshidy and Dr Maysam Abbod.

The title of Muhammad’s thesis was “A Self-Optimised Cloud Radio Access Network for Emerging 5G Architectures”.  The examination panel comprised Professor Rahim Tafazolli from Surrey University and Dr Rajagopal Nilavalan from the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, CEDPS, Brunel University London.  The viva voce examination was chaired by Dr Mohamed Darwish. During PhD studies, Dr. Muhammad successfully published 5 international journal papers and 6 international conference papers. 

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Muhammad on this fantastic achievement and wish him all the best in the future.

Dr. Muhammad Ajaz, Assistant Professor of Physics, Published a Paper


Dr. Muhammad Ajaz, Assistant Professor of Physics has published a paper in Modern Physics Letters A, Particles and Fields; Gravitation; Cosmology and Nuclear Physics, Volume 33, Issue 06, 28 February 2018. The title of the paper is “Comparison of hadron production models for pions, kaons, protons and antiprotons production in proton–carbon interactions at 60 GeV/c.

FF-STEEL (Frontier Foundry (Pvt) Ltd, one of the largest and fastest re-rolling mill in Pakistan, Institute of Business Studies & Leadership (IBL) of  Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan have organized on campus recruitment drive on Friday March 2, 2018. Dr. Majid Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, awarded for research achievement in the category of Best Research Paper award in the 6th HEC outstanding Research awards 2015/2016. The award ceremony was held on 1st March, 2018 in HEC.

Mr. Naveed Khan, Lecturer deptt. of Biotechnology and PhD scholar at university of Copenhagen under faculty development program,  published an article with Title "Ancient genomes revisit the ancestry of domestic and Przewalski’s horses" in the journal of science (impact factor: 37.205).
